Keeping Yourself and Your Employees Safe
More professionals are injured in the healthcare and social assistance industry sector than any other. In 2010, the healthcare and social assistance industry reported 24% more injury and illness cases than any other private industry sector. Now more than ever, healthcare professionals face a number of serious safety and health hazards.
The Occupational Safety and Health Act created the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to assure safe and healthful working conditions for men and women and a workplace free of known dangers.
Establishing a workplace safety and health program sets the foundation for OSHA Compliance & Safety and and worker protection. HTCS experts can help you navigate complicated regulatory requirements, assess your current program and reduce risks for costly non-compliance or inefficiencies resulting from preventable injuries or illnesses.
Among the many regulations mandated by OSHA, the Hazard Communication Standard (HCS or HazCom) has been revised to align with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals, commonly known as GHS. With this revision HazCom now is known as HazCom 2012, which revises the criteria for how chemical manufacturers and producers classify their hazardous chemicals, standardize labeling and safety data sheets for hazardous chemicals, modify hazardous chemical warning signs, and require additional employee training. According to OSHA, this rule will affect more than 40 million employees at more than 5 million workplaces including healthcare, and cost industry more than one billion dollars.
Much like the conversion to ICD-10, there is a deadline for compliance with HazCom 2012. Violations and non-compliance are costly. Will your facility or practice be ready? Are you behind on your OSHA Compliance & Safety conversion efforts already?
